Cannot set thread_concurrency on 7790
« on: June 06, 2013, 01:00:15 PM »
Hi everyone,

I've been mining btc for a little while and now I'm trying to set up mining for ltc instead. I have 3 Sapphire HD 7790 cards (1gb) which should be generating between 200 and 244 khash according to newbielink:https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison [nonactive] . However, my cards are generating only about 130 khash each at defaults. Overclocking/underclocking brings +- 10khash.

These are the relevant settings I'm using in cgminer:
{
"intensity" : "17,17,17",
"vectors" : "1,1,1",
"worksize" : "128,128,128",
"kernel" : "scrypt,scrypt,scrypt",
"lookup-gap" : "2,2,2",
"thread-concurrency" : "0,0,0",
"shaders" : "892,892,892",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "2",
"scrypt" : true
}

Now, when I set thread_concurrency to anything except for 0 (such as 8000, as reported to be a sweet spot for 7770/7790) I am only getting 1-3 khashes per card in total (meaning less then 10 khash for all 3 cards in total!).

I am using Catalyst 13.4 and I've installed AMD StreamSDK 2.8.

Does anyone have any idea what am I doing wrong and why does khash rate drops to practically zero when thread_concurrecy is set? FYI I also tried Guiminer Scrypt and it generates 25 khash per card with a profile of 7770. I've also tried using reaper, but it fails to compile at start :(

Please help  :-\
 Thanks in advance!

A couple things:

Scrypt-Mining does not use the Vectors flag, so go ahead and remove it.

The Shaders flag is overwritten by anything in the Thread Concurrency flag.  So, i would remove the Shaders flag entirely and just go with the TC flag.

That being said, i think you need to clean your driver platform off completely and make sure its all fresh.  Use Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode after uninstalling your drivers from the Control Panel. Then, install the SDK and Cat drivers in that order.

Good Luck!

Just tried. Wiped the installation clean and tried to install SDK - but it will not install. It breaks with unknown hardware error. I assume he needs catalyst in order to detect a compatible card?

Installed 7790 performance drivers (no AMD SDK) and set the clocks to 850/1500 and out of sudden - 245k per card. Good enough, but unfortunately nowhere near 320 Mhash that I was getting for btc :-/

Thanks though :)
