cgminer configuration x6 Gigabyte R9 270
« on: January 14, 2014, 06:24:23 AM »
Hey guys,

I just looked around on all these builds for the past 3 weeks, and finally up until a week ago went with x6 Gigabyte R9 270 mining rig. (Due to it's been mention semi- alot and the price was not $1million for 1 GPU. Keep in-mind it's the Gigabyte R9 270 NOT the R9 270x

I have all the parts and I have someone who knows how to put them together, undervolt them and overclock them. I was sitting here and was like, shoot I don't know the configuration for the x6 270's. I spent the last, about good 5 hours researching the cgminer configuration for it and came up with nothing for the 270. They have some for 270x. I read that the 270x configuration MIGHT work on the 270 due to they are the same just different speeds. I wanted to post on here to see what configuration is the right one. (450kh/s on all 6 = 2,700kh/s).
(Note: the rig is not set-up and not mining until Wednesday 15th.

Any idea's!?
Thanks!

I would also be interested in this information. I am getting "invalid nonce" hardware errors with my Gigabyte r9 270 at the moment.

Okay, so I'm currently running 3 Giga R9 270 (not 270x!)

My current config for cgminer is the following

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://URL of Site -u USER.WORKER -p PASS --thread-concurrency 15232 -I 19 -g 1 -w 512 --gpu-fan 85 --temp-cutoff 80

I'm hashing at 415-425kh/s (Jumps some times) on all 3. (Not over clocked nor undervolted) Which is good Kh/s since it should be mining at 450's on each when overclocked. :)

HW is currently 0 Running it for 4 hours now.

I'm doing more testing with the hardware due to air flow reasons until I get more cables to put the other 3 into it. :)

Please, let me know if there's a better Config for the R9 270 (Not 270x)
Currently using this one because the Kh/s and no HW is great.

Anyone else have a config that's better let me know! I'll shoot over some coins your way for helping out. (Doge, but can trade over to another one if you want!) :)

I may be able to help you out on this and save some of the hours of learning experience I had with these cards.

#1.  The R9 270 Gigabyte cards I have will only run with the latest Catalyst drivers.  I am using Catalyst 13.11 beta 9.4 and Cgminer 3.7.2.  From what I have figured out, you can only run 4 cards on the latest drivers.  64bit os(Linux or Windows) and 13.1 drivers should run 5 cards and the 12.6 drivers can run 6 cards.  If you are planning to run 6 of these cards on the same board, it won't work.  You would need the 12.6 drivers and the cards are not recognized with these drivers.

#2.  Settings.  Here is what I am running and getting 450khash/card.
--scrypt --auto-gpu --gpu-threads 1 -s 1 -Q 5 -E 1 --temp-target 73 --temp-overheat 76 --temp-cutoff 79 --temp-hysteresis 1 --gpu-engine 100-1000 --auto-fan --gpu-fan 50-100 --gpu-memclock 1450 --gpu-powertune 0 -w 256 -I 17 --thread-concurrency 15232

Yes, I currently have the following hooked up and running with this configuration.

x5 R9 270 (not x)
449/450 kh/s each running 2200 for 5. (4 running atm due to a cable shorted out.. again)

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.chunky.ms:3333 -u HaHaItsJake.1 -p 1 --thread-concurrency 15232 --intensity 19 --worksize 256 -g 1 --gpu-fan 95 --temp-cutoff 80

Afterburner set to -5% power 1050 Core Clock 1500 Memory Clock.

Temps are 60-70 for 4 and 70-75 for 1 (for some reason the fan doesn't reach it.) I have the Fan under the GPU's with the fan blowing up. A second fan blowing into the rig from the front (Light fan to blow the hot heat away from the top). GPU's are vertical.

Please, if you're reading this and got Riser Cables watch out. Some suck and short out which in return short your hole rig. I was lucky to catch all 6 cabled before they did. Yes, all 6 cabled were shorted out not being overclocked or undervolted either. I now have good ones I bought that are even longer. :)

Buying x6 R9 270's or any other but the 290x (or 280x) will not work on Windows. Only Linux. BAMT is hard to set up for me. Linux is complicated but will be trying it when my next 2 cables come up. Well see if the 6 will work on linux with out any problems.

Jake,
Awesome you got more than 4 to work.  Can you tell me what Linux version and what Catalyst drivers version you are using?

Running my R9 270s on BAMT I was able to get 478khash/card stable with cards at 72 degrees(card fan speed is about 70% with a large fan blowing on them).  Try this out.
Engine 1125
Memory 1500
I 19
TC 15232

BAMT is 32 bit so you should only be able to get 4 cards to run.  To setup just copy BAMT to your flash drive.  Create a config file (cgminer.conf) and put in the bamt/config/to folder.  Examples are in the bamt/config/from folder.  Boot up and it should start mining in about a minute.

I have 6 x Gigabyte R9 280X running with windows 7 64bit and the 12.6 catalyst drivers.  Not all the R9s don't work in windows.

I hear you about the risers.  I have blown several boards and cards.  I put black tape the ends of the risers by the cards.  If any of the pins on the card side touch something(CPU heatsink) you can loose a card or just burn a riser.  Also be careful to insert the 1x riser in the right way.  It will fit backwards in a 16x slot and bad things happen.  Poof. :)

I would also suggest getting powered risers for at least 2 of your 6 cards.  I have blown the motherboard connector on a board with only 4 cards without powered risers due to the extra current the cards pull from the board.  I have been running 2 powered risers on my 6 cards rigs without problems.

Looking forward to seeing how you do when the risers come in.

Jake,

There is a version(as of 3 days ago) of BAMT that support 6 cards.  Check it out here:

A pre mined digital currency like XRP or XNF-NoFiatCoin are much better. After all, We could save so much our efforts invested in mining.

It will hashing at 444 - 450 kh/s ,  I have 7 X 4 cards and 1 X 2 cards rigs , total 30 cards with different brands but mainly GIGA R9 270 and R9 270X  running by remote control...... by QQ ( Chinese MSN ) QQ have remote control function at NO COST.  Using higher I=19 or I=20 ...... I will need to add Fan and change to a better CPU to handle the extra load, I use two FSP 650 platinum plus better than 92% efficiency and keep all the load between 40% to 65%.

I find out that mix different brand and XOC and OC will help stable the rig..... only same brand and model is not the most stable conf....

Running the above conf..... NO FAN, and LOW heat come out from the rig.

I'm hashing at 415-425kh/s (Jumps some times) on all 3. (Not over clocked nor undervolted) Which is good Kh/s since it should be mining at 450's on each when overclocked. :)
