Going to setup a mining rig. Need suggestions
« on: May 05, 2013, 09:46:08 AM »
Hi guys, i'm gonna setup a mining rig. Here's my configuration. let me know if i need to change something.

Mobo: Asus crosshair v formula
cpu: Amd bulldozer 1850 black edition
gpu: 4 x sapphire 7950
psu: Real Power Pro 1250W (cooler master)
ram: 8GB

tell me if any of these is not compatible or have anyother issue, i've ordered the gpu but i need to buy other stuff. mobo+cpu+psu+cpucooler, i'm getting these in a bundle from someone i know.
I think that 1250W won't be enough to run all 4 of these. anyways, tell me what do you think about this.

Looks great! I would just make sure your PSU is gold rated and your Sapphire's can be overclocked. For the rest of the build components, you can check out my build list: http://www.coinminingrigs.com/quad-7970-mining-rig/

The build list linked above is the one I've used for several mining rigs I've built. The 7970s can get 700+ Kh/s and the 7950s get roughly 550 Kh/s each. The build list for both cards is the same, with the exception of the cards. Since it looks like you're going to go with the 7950s that should get you a nice 2200 Kh/s rig. Just be sure to use PCI-e risers to keep those cards wide enough apart for airflow. I use a box fan to push lots of air past the cards. Works great to keep the gpu core temperature down.

It's pretty simple. The GPU needs a 16x slot (on the motherboard or on a riser cable), so you'll want to get powered riser cables with either 1x to 16x or 16x to 16x depending on which slots are available on your motherboard. I just wrote up a litecoin/bitcoin mining software guide as well that might be useful to you here.
