Limit GPU power allocated to mining programs.
« on: December 02, 2013, 02:20:53 PM »
I'm relatively new to mining - though not to cryptocurrencies. Did a few calculations about the profitability of mining litecoins and thought I'd try it out.

I ran into trouble with my GPU. It is a ATI Radeon HD6800 with passive heating. (Had the coolers removed and installed a heatsink) It works well, but once I started mining it would overheat and shut itself down. This happened at around 80 C°.

While I am planning on buying a new GPU - perhaps a new computer altogether - I'd still like to try mining with my current setup. Is it possible to limit the GPU power allocated to the mining programs?

I'd appreciate any help and insight. :)
