Xubuntu & CGminer won't work for me. Request help!
« on: December 06, 2013, 11:50:53 PM »
Hello Litecoiners!

I've tried to get my litecoin miner up for the last 48 hours, didn't get any sleep and I really don't know what I should try anymore.
Im soooooooooooooooooooo tired, had soooooooo much coffee, I need to sleep but I don't want to sleep before it all works....
HELP ME!

Problem:
When I run cgminer 2.7.2 it doesn't find the server, nor workers, nor pools, nothing.
This is the output I get when running ./mine.sh from the terminal:

[2013-12-07 00:33:24] Started cgminer 2.7.2

 [2013-12-07 00:33:24] Loaded configuration file cgminer.conf
 [2013-12-07 00:33:25] Probing for an alive pool
 [2013-12-07 00:34:08] Pool 0 slow/down or URL or credentials invalid
 [2013-12-07 00:34:08] Unable to get work from pool 0 newbielink:http://xxx:xxx [nonactive]

I'm really sure the URL / port / workers / passwords are correct and on the right place (syntax is right)
I know this because I got it running on another windows PC just fine.
I've got an Internet connection (can browse etc)
cgminer recognizes my gpus:

./cgminer -n
 [2013-12-07 00:41:02] CL Platform 0 vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
 [2013-12-07 00:41:02] CL Platform 0 name: AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing

When trying to add more pools (from other sites):

 [2013-12-07 00:34:19] Press any key to exit, or cgminer will try again in 15s.
 [2013-12-07 00:35:14] Pool 0 slow/down or URL or credentials invalid
 [2013-12-07 00:35:14] Unable to get work from pool 0 newbielink:http://xxx:xxx [nonactive]
 [2013-12-07 00:36:14] Pool 1 slow/down or URL or credentials invalid
 [2013-12-07 00:36:14] Unable to get work from pool 1 newbielink:http://xxx:xxx [nonactive]

I even added port forwarding on port 3334.

I skipped a lot of steps that went wrong during the last 2 days. Installed xubuntu 3 times. Tried it live. Installed windows 7 on an usb stick.
They all had exactly the same problem :( :(

What am I missing?As my last hope I will install xubuntu updates now and hope for an awesome reply from an awesome guy (or lady)

Step 1. Putting it all together

4 days ago I bought my miner with this hardware/OS:

Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extereme4-M
Processor: Intel Celeron G 1620 2700 1155
Memory: GEIL DragonRAM DDR3 4GB 1600
GPU: 2x Gigabyte R9 280x
PSU: Coolermaster V850 ATX23
OS: Xubuntu x64 12.10 on 16GB USB 3.0 Drive (& another USB-stick to install it from)

Step 2. Installing OS & Downloading drivers

The idea was to save on an HDD and follow this guide to install xubuntu on a USB-drive:
newbielink:http://www.cryptobadger.com/2013/04/build-a-litecoin-mining-rig-linux/ [nonactive]

Installing the OS went great actually! First I downloaded an xubuntu iso, put it on an usb stick with LinuxLive USB Creator.
Things were going really smooth until now! I loved Xubuntu/Ubuntu/Linux.
When things were all done with installing, I rebooted and downloaded the following things:
  • AMD Catalyst 13.11 beta linux x64
  • AMD APP SDK v2.9
  • cgminer 2.7.2
Step 3. Installing drivers
  • The AMD Catalyst driver installed perfect.
  • APP SDK installed without errors
  • copied all files inside the cgminer archive file to home/<username>/miner/
  • created a config file (for details about what's inside the config check below)
{
"pools" : [
 {
  "url" : "I-like-to-drink-orange-juice:3334",
  "user" : "ORANGE.JUICE",
  "pass" : "Juicy"
 },
 {
  "url" : "I-like-to-drink-orange-juice:3334",
  "user" : "ORANGE.JUICE",

 },

 {

  "user" : "ORANGE.JUICE",
  "pass" : "Juicy"
 }
],
"intensity" : "13,13",
"gpu-engine" : "1030,1030",
"thread-concurrency" : "8192,8192",
"gpu-autofan" : true,
"gpu-fan" : "30-100,30-100",
"gpu-vddc" : "1.087,1.087",
"shaders" : "2048,2048",
"gpu-memclock" : "1500,1500",
"worksize" : "256",
"gpu-powertune" : "-5,-5",
"temp-cutoff" : "90,90",

"queue" : "1",
"scan-time" : "60",
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"scrypt" : true,

"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"
}

(I got the same problem running it without the config file and manually putting my url, username and password with -o, -u and -p)
  • created a file mine.sh that looks like this:
#!/bin/sh
export DISPLAY=:0
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
./cgminer --config cgminer.conf

All went according to the guide, followed every step (I don't know much about linux/xubuntu so I had to)
  • When I run the command aticonfig --adapter=all --odgt; This is the output I get:
Adapter 0 - AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
            Sensor 0: Temperature - 33.00 C

Adapter 1 - AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
            Sensor 0: Temperature - 30.00 C

For the really awesome people that made it to the end of my long post:
There will be an reward involved for the one that makes this pc work.

I skipped a lot of steps that went wrong during the last 2 days. Installed xubuntu 3 times. Tried it live. Installed windows 7 on an usb stick.
They all had the same problem :( :(
What am I missing?
