Lite coin mining help

Hi all,[/size]I have just downloaded the Lite Coin Qt. 1) It shows that i am out of sync...Although i was synchronising suddently it does not anymore2) My hash rate per second is zero.Please help... any suggestions? I am new in cryptocurrencies and my IT knowledge is limited. Maybe it is because i use a laptop? 5 year old... Do i need another PC in order to mine litecoins?


I am trying to mine CPU or GPU? What is the difference? How can i distinguish between the two?


Excuse my ignorence but this is all new to me but i want to learn...Any help will be greattly appreciated

Using your laptop you are CPU (Central Processing Unit) mining.  A 5 year old laptop is probably a Core Duo or similar unit.  If you are mining with the Lite Coin Qt, then you will probably go the rest of your life without finding a single coin because you are solo mining with a toothpick (metaphor....).


A GPU is a "Graphics Processing Unit" also known as a graphics card. 


The software for mining CPU and GPU are different programs. 


The first time I synchronized my LTC wallet it took a couple days.
